Hotline 24-hours where advocates provide support and offer options and resources to persons dealing with domestic violence.  Emergency shelter in safe, confidential location.  Help in obtaining protective orders along with other court proceedings and social service needs.  On-going support groups for women whose lives have been affected by domestic abuse.  Educational workshops and presentations available to adult and teen groups in the community.

Batterer Intervention Programs
The goal of these programs is to insure the safety of battered women and their children by ending men's violence against women.  Programs may focus on teaching nonviolent ways for men to communicate and act, or they may use a power analysis and education about choice.  Some groups are non-profits; some for-profit (marked with *).

Sexual Assault Crisis and Support Centers
Maine's 10 sexual assault crisis and support centers (also one in New Hampshire serving people in southern Maine) work to help alleviate the suffering of survivors of sexual assault and incest, returning them to a sense of control and empowerment. These centers provide services including hotlines, support groups, advocacy through the medical and legal systems, referrals, community education, school based education, and community activism.  Some Centers have satellite offices.
