Our all-volunteer member civic group is dedicated to environmental
education and reducing pollution by purchasing and retiring marketable air
emission permits. We raise funds and bid alongside polluters, taking air
pollution permits off the market, thereby keeping sulfur dioxide out of the
air. In 2001, we own the right to emit 216 tons of sulfur dioxide, meaning
the air is cleaner by that amount. Note that only 1 ton is enough to kill
every living thing in any lake in Maine! Membership is $10/year; meetings
as needed.
